The Chimney Sweep News (SNEWS) sponsored the inaugural Inventice Awards program at Mohegan Sun in conjunction with NCSG Innovation 2007. Dynacote won in the Products for Chimney Consumers Category. Staflex-Helix lightweight chimney liner by Flex-L won in the Products for Chimney Professionals category. Six entries were submitted in two categories: Products for Chimney Professionals and Products for Consumers. The requirements were that products must be newly available in the marketplace since the last NCSG convention, not an idea or prototype, and be on display at the trade show at this convention.
A panel of five judges, selected by Jim Gillam, editor of The Chimney Sweep News, evaluated the products on the basis of their perceived utility and degree of innovation. The judges were Stephen Kuber of Chim-Cheree Chimney Sweep, Brick, NJ, Steve Scally of Fireside Sweeps, Fremont, NH, Jim Collar of London Aire Chimney Services, Forest Lake, MN, Michaele Dempsey of Professional Chimney Sweep, Visalia, CA and Steve Pietila of American Chimney & Masonry Inc, Portland, OR. - Posted 5/16/07
Eliot, ME - Dynacote LLC won the Inventice Award, for "Innovation in Venting Service -- Best New Product for Chimney Consumers" at the National Chimney Sweep Guild Convention & Trade Show April 20, 2007. Being the inaugural year for the award, Chris Varney, co-manager of Dynacote, LLC, and Vice-president of Ventech Industries, could not be more thrilled.
Dynacote's winning product, DC-33, is a high emissivity coating in a spray can, specifically designed for application on the bricks of fireplace fireboxes. "We are able to increase the efficiency of the firebox by providing more radiant heat. In other words, less fuel, more heat." says Varney. An application will provide up to 30% more heat to the room. This is exciting news in these times of rising fuel prices and increasing awareness of global warming issues. Dynacote is also working with manufacturers of wood, gas, pellet and coal appliances to increase efficiency and reduce both fuel consumption and emissions.
Dynacote, run by the father-son team of Mike and Chris Varney, is a joint venture between Ventech Industries, Inc. of Eliot, Maine and Wessex, Inc. of Blacksburg, Virginia. The Varneys have spent years in the venting industry, most notably as the founders of Ventech Industries, the leading purveyors of advanced ceramic coatings and thermal protective systems for the venting industries in North America.
"Understandably we are incredibly proud of the award and the attention it will bring to Dynacote," says Varney. "We understand that this technology can save the average homeowner using a fireplace hundreds of dollars each year. The importance of this product is significant. And to have our peers recognize that is just icing on the cake."
The thirty-year old trade show attracts chimney and venting professionals from all across the US, Canada & Europe. This year's theme, Innovation 2007, brought nearly 1,000 attendees and over 100 exhibitors to the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.
